Update from VicRoads

The following update was posted on the VicRoads website on 10 May 2023:

We’re improving safety at the Broadway and Boldrewood Parade roundabout for pedestrians, cyclists and, school kids travelling to and from Reservoir East Primary School.

We’re extending the current 40km/h school speed zone on Boldrewood Parade to include the Broadway and Boldrewood Parade roundabout.

The 40km/h school speed zone at the roundabout will be active during

  • School drop off: 8am – 9.30am
  • School pick up: 2.30pm – 4pm

To improve safety at the roundabout and ensure the 40km/h school speed zone is visible, we will:

  • Install new 40km/h school speed zone signs
  • Install new pedestrian and bike rider warning signs
  • Add ‘Slow down’ pavement markings on the south approach of Boldrewood Parade to advise drivers to slow down as they approach the roundabout from the south.
  • Remove the dash line marking on the southwest corner of the roundabout to reduce driver confusion about who has right of way.

Works are expected to start on Saturday 27 May and be completed by the end of May, if weather conditions permit. Works to install new signs will be completed during the day. Pavement and line marking works will be completed at night. During works, there will be temporary lane closures and reduced speeds in place to keep our crews safe.

Pedestrians and cyclists are completely exposed to the full force for a crash, making them some of the most vulnerable road users. In the five years leading up to 2023 there have been 11 crashes at the Broadway and Boldrewood Parade roundabout, four of which involved cyclists.

The Victorian Government is investing $30,000 to make immediate safety improvements for vulnerable road users at the Broadway and Boldrewood Parade roundabout.
